HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare,
3was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23,
42010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The goal of the Affordable Care Act was to give
6more Americans access to affordable, quality health insurance
7by expanding the affordability, quality, and availability of
8private and public health insurance; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act helps young people by
10letting them stay on their parents' healthcare plan until the
11age of 26; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act expanded Medicaid to
13millions of people in the states that chose to expand the
14program; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act helps those who need
16health insurance the most by requiring all insurers to cover
17people with pre-existing conditions; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act has drastically decreased
19the number of uninsured Americans; and

1    WHEREAS, It is estimated that, as of 2016, 20 million
2additional Americans have health insurance because of the
3Affordable Care Act; and
 
4    WHEREAS, For the year 2017, near1y 500,000 Illinoisans
5applied for healthcare coverage provided under the Affordable
6Care Act; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In June of 2012, the Affordable Care Act was
8deemed constitutional by the United States Supreme Court; and
 
9    WHEREAS, President Donald Trump and Congress have
10discussed repealing the Affordable Care Act but have offered no
11plan to replace it; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Repealing the Affordable Care Act would be
13detrimental to the lives of millions of Americans; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17urge President Donald Trump and Congress to cease their efforts
18to repeal the Affordable Care Act; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
20delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority
