HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize James Mathew of Hinsdale on
4being selected as one of the top youth volunteers in Illinois
5for 2017; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Mathew was selected as part of the 22nd
7annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and
 
8    WHEREAS, James Mathew is a senior at Hinsdale Central High
9School; he is the co-creator of "Got Food?", a mobile app
10designed to fight food insecurity by helping people in need,
11and those who serve them, locate nearby food pantries and other
12resources in 14 states; he is a junior director of development
13at his local food pantry, and was inspired to create the app
14after learning how many clients were struggling to connect with
15food charities because they did not know the hours and
16locations; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
18represents the largest youth recognition program based solely
19on volunteer service in the United States; all public and
20private middle schools and high schools in the country, as well
21as all Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American
22Red Cross chapters, YMCAs, and HandsOn Network affiliates, were

1eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential
2Spirit of Community Award; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Students like James Mathew represent the best of
4America's youth and are role models to their peers and
5communities; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8recognize James Mathew on being selected as one of the top
9youth volunteers in Illinois for 2017; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to James Mathew as an expression of our esteem and
12respect.
