HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Roger Dean Herrin on
4the occasion of his retirement from the Southern Illinois
5University (SIU) Board of Trustees on January 12, 2017; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was appointed to the SIU Board of
7Trustees on April 9, 2011; he served one year as Board
8Chairman, and most recently served as Chairman of the Finance
9Committee; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was born on January 30, 1937 in Hardin
11County; he attended Cave in Rock Grade and High School, where
12he was the 1955 salutatorian; he earned his Bachelor of Science
13from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee in 1960 and did
14graduate work at DePaul University, Roosevelt University,
15Elmhurst College, and Northwestern University; he earned his
16Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Illinois College of
17Podiatric Medicine in 1969, where he received the highest, and
18last, Dr. L.R. McCain Award for outstanding proficiency in
19surgical anatomy and surgery; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin served as Chairman of the Science
21Department and head basketball coach at LaGrange High School
22from 1958 to 1963; he co-authored a textbook with Dr. Glen

1Seaborg, Head of the Atomic Energy Commission from 1960 to 61;
2he was one of the original members of the Illinois Health
3Facilities Authority, where he served as Vice-Chairman; he also
4served as Chairman of the Underwriters Committee from 1973-79;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin retired from the practice of surgical
7podiatry and sports medicine in Harrisburg; he served on the
8staff of the Harrisburg Medical Center and Hardin County
9General Hospital; he was instrumental in the formation of the
10Harrisburg Medical Center; he was a past member of the Illinois
11Health Care Reform Task Force; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was President of RDK Management
13Services, Inc. and CombBank, Inc.; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin has been a guest lecturer at numerous
15State and national conventions; he is a member of IPS, APA, and
16numerous other State and national associations; he is a past
17consultant at Vienna Correctional Center, the U.S. Forestry
18Service, and the federal prison in Marion; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21congratulate Dr. Roger Dean Herrin on his retirement from the
22Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees; and be it
