SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new

    Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of State Senator or State Representative for terms totalling more than 16 years in each house of the General Assembly. Provides that service before the second Wednesday in January of 2019 shall not be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 to Article IV
9of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

THE LEGISLATURE

12    (ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new)
13SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS.
14    A person may not be elected to the office of State Senator
15or State Representative for terms totalling more than 16 years
16in each house of the General Assembly. Service before the
17second Wednesday in January of 2019 shall not be considered in
18the calculation of a person's service.

SCHEDULE
20    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
21declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
22Constitutional Amendment Act.
