HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The City of Springfield and the entire State of
3Illinois have countless reasons to be proud of 2015 NBA Finals
4MVP Andre Iguodala; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala was born in Springfield on January
628, 1984; he graduated from Lanphier High School in 2002, where
7he excelled both academically and athletically, winning
8All-Conference academic honors, winning the State
9Journal-Register Student-Athlete of the Week several times,
10and placing on the National Honor Roll; as a senior, he led his
11team to a second-place finish at the Illinois High School
12Association Class AA State Tournament; that season, he averaged
1323.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game; he was
14named the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year and a Second
15Team Parade All-American and Nike All-American; his Number 41
16jersey was retired by Lanphier High School in 2011; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala attended Arizona University and
18was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 9th overall pick
19in the 2004 NBA Draft; during his 11 years of playing in the
20NBA, he has spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Denver
21Nuggets, and the Golden State Warriors; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala is one of the most dependable

1players in the NBA, having started in 758 consecutive games
2prior to the 2014-2015 season; and
 
3    WHEREAS, During the 2015 NBA Finals, Andre Iguodala
4averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1.3 steals
5per game; in the clinching game, he collected 25 points, 5
6assists, and 5 rebounds; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala was named the NBA Finals Most
8Valuable Player, becoming the first NBA Champion and NBA Finals
9MVP from Springfield; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala also won an Olympic Gold Medal with
11the 2012 USA Men's Basketball Team; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala has numerous accomplishments
13giving back to the Springfield community as well as playing for
14the NBA; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala and his family started the Andre
16Iguodala Youth Foundation to inspire and empower youth through
17combining education and athletic programs to motivate
18children; the organization sponsors numerous events each year
19to improve the lives of families in the Springfield area, such
20as a basketball camp and a Thanksgiving dinner giveaway to
21hundreds of Springfield families in need; and

1    WHEREAS, In 2006, Andre Iguodala and his parents set up a
2disaster relief fund to assist Springfield residents impacted
3by a tornado; the fund raised over $35,000 for local relief
4efforts; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Iguodala family continues to give back to
6central Illinois, including his brother, Frank, who played
7collegiate basketball at Lake Land College in Mattoon and the
8University of Dayton in Ohio; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
11CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of Illinois
12Route 97 in Springfield from 9th Street to Veterans Parkway as
13"Honorary Andre Iguodala Drive"; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
15is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
16State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
17giving notice of the name "Honorary Andre Iguodala Drive"; and
18be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
20presented to Andre Iguodala and the Andre Iguodala Youth
21Foundation to celebrate his dedication and service to
