SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
25 ILCS 115/5 new
25 ILCS 120/7 new

    Amends the General Assembly Compensation Act. Provides that any increase in the salary of General Assembly members shall require a vote of three-fifths of the members elected to each house. Amends the Compensation Review Act. Provides that the annual increase in salary for members of the General Assembly based upon a cost of living adjustment shall no longer be in effect.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The General Assembly Compensation Act is amended
5by adding Section 5 as follows:
 
6    (25 ILCS 115/5 new)
7    Sec. 5. Salary increase vote. Any increase in the salary of
8General Assembly members shall require a vote of three-fifths
9of the members elected to each house.
 
10    Section 10. The Compensation Review Act is amended by
11adding Section 7 as follows:
 
12    (25 ILCS 120/7 new)
13    Sec. 7. Discontinuation of annual salary increase. The
14annual increase in salary for members of the General Assembly
15based upon a cost of living adjustment, as authorized by
16motions 15 and 16 of the report of the former Compensation
17Review Board, dated April 25, 1990, as adopted by Senate Joint
18Resolution 192 of the 86th General Assembly, shall no longer be
19in effect. Any increase in the salary of General Assembly
20members on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act
21of the 100th General Assembly shall be provided by a vote of
