1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6amended by adding Section 2310-22 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-22 new)
8    Sec. 2310-22. Tracking food deserts. The Department, in
9cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, shall notify
10respective municipal governmental bodies identified as food
11deserts and provide an annual report to the General Assembly by
12December 31 of each year that identifies the locations of food
13deserts within the State and provides information about health
14issues associated with food deserts. If the annual report
15contains information from the federal government that
16identifies the locations of food deserts in the State and
17provides information on health issues associated with food
18deserts, then the requirements of this Section shall be
19satisfied. For the purposes of this Section, "food desert"
20means a location vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other
21healthful whole foods, in part due to a lack of grocery stores,
22farmers' markets, or healthy food providers.
