1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the State
5Agency Student Worker Opportunity Act.
 
6    Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
7    "Court-involved youth" means an individual who was
8committed to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice
9or a county juvenile detention center and has been released
10from that facility or discharged from custody.
11    "Homeless youth" means an individual up to 21 years of age,
12who has been verified as a homeless child or youth, as defined
13under the Federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
14    "Qualified applicant" means an individual who: (1) is 21
15years of age or younger; (2) is qualified for the internship or
16student worker position; and (3) is or has been a dependent
17child in foster care, a homeless youth, or a court-involved
18youth.
19    "State agency" means all boards, commissions, agencies,
20institutions, authorities, bodies politic and corporate of the
21State created by or pursuant to the constitution or statute, of
22the executive branch of State government.

1    Section 10. Internships and student workers; transmit
2information.
3    (a) Whenever a State agency has a job opening for an intern
4or a student worker, that State agency shall notify the
5Department of Human Services, the Department of Juvenile
6Justice, and the Department of Children and Family Services and
7document that notification.
8    (b) The Department of Human Services, the Department of
9Juvenile Justice, and the Department of Children and Family
10Services shall take steps to notify qualified applicants of
11each internship or student worker job opening for which a
12notification is received under subsection (a) and shall
13document those steps.
