AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1671

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1671 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Police Service Dog Protection Act.
 
6    Section 5. Definitions. In this Act:
7    "Law enforcement agency" means a county, municipal, or
8State law enforcement agency.
9    "Police dog" has the same meaning ascribed to the term in
10subsection (e) of Section 3.55 of the Emergency Medical
11Services (EMS) Systems Act.
 
12    Section 10. Medical care.    (a) The law enforcement
13agency, or handler of the police dog shall be required to have
14every police dog receive, at minimum, an annual medical
15examination by a licensed veterinarian.

1    (b) Prior to beginning service as a police dog, the
2employing law enforcement agency shall require the dog be
3vaccinated against rabies as required under Section 8 of the
4Animal Control Act.
 
5    Section 15. Vehicles transporting police dogs;
6requirements.
7    A vehicle used to transport a police dog shall be equipped
8with a heat sensor monitoring device which shall:
9        (1) monitor the internal temperature of the vehicle in
10    which the police dog is being transported;
11        (2) provide an audible and visual notification in the
12    vehicle if the interior temperature reaches 85 degrees
13    Fahrenheit which remotely notifies the law enforcement
14    officer responsible for the police dog or the law
15    enforcement agency's 24 hour dispatch center; and
16        (3) have a safety mechanism to reduce the interior
17    temperature of the vehicle.".
