2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of William Dalrymple "Dal" Frost of Lake |
4 | | Forest, who passed away on January 1, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, William Frost was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota |
6 | | to Katherine N. Dalrymple and Jerome S. Frost on
December 31, |
7 | | 1926 and grew up in Wayzata, Minnesota; he was drafted into
the |
8 | | United States Army during the closing days of World War II and |
9 | | was deployed to Munich, Germany, serving with the Rainbow |
10 | | Division, 3rd Military
Government for Bavaria, where he |
11 | | assisted with the repatriation of displaced persons from Dachau |
12 | | and other area
concentration camps; he was discharged as a |
13 | | Sergeant at Fort Sheridan in 1946; he married Mary Bannerman in |
14 | | 1953; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, William Frost and a friend
bought a surplus army |
16 | | ambulance and drove from Minneapolis to Alaska on the Alaska |
17 | | Canadian Highway,
the first year it was opened to civilians |
18 | | after the war; he spent a year working in Anchorage as a |
19 | | laborer; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, William Frost returned to Minnesota and began a |
21 | | lifelong career in the newsprint sales business, starting with |
22 | | Minnesota Ontario Paper in 1950; he moved to the Chicago area |

1 | | in 1953 and worked for the Great Lakes Paper; he retired as |
2 | | President of the Canadian Pacific
Newsprint Division; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, William Frost served on the Board of Directors of |
4 | | NICASA, ChildServ, Hazelton, Youth Communications, and the |
5 | | Bannerman
Foundation; he was a member of Onwentsia Club for 57 |
6 | | years and a longtime member of the Anglers Club of
Chicago; he |
7 | | loved spending time with
his family in northern Wisconsin, |
8 | | visiting his extended family in California, and spending time |
9 | | with Bill W., his friend of over 45 years; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, William Frost and his wife enjoyed traveling |
11 | | together, visiting Alaska, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, |
12 | | China,
Southeast Asia, and South America; he was active in his |
13 | | community and helped many people in need; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, William Frost was preceded in death by his wife of |
15 | | nearly 62 years, Mary; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, William Frost is survived by his children, |
17 | | Katherine "Katie" (David) Frost Bibbs, and
Will Frost (JoEllen |
18 | | Lottsfeldt); his grandchildren, Mary and Will Bibbs, and Sophie |
19 | | Frost; and his sister, Diane Wick; therefore, be it
