|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Frances Joann Winfield; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield was born to Bernard and Dorothy |
5 | | Terry on October 20, 1935; she attended Fuller Elementary and |
6 | | Phillips High School; in 2001, she completed her bachelor's |
7 | | degree at DePaul University; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield worked for First National Bank |
9 | | for 23 years; she also worked as a substance abuse counselor at |
10 | | the Haymarket House for 22 years, where she counseled |
11 | | recovering mothers; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield experienced the turmoil of the |
13 | | civil rights movement first-hand, and committed herself to |
14 | | helping minorities achieve equality; she advocated in court for |
15 | | friends and family members, assisted the homeless with |
16 | | donations, and counseled and mentored many people struggling |
17 | | with gangs and the drug culture; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield was committed to the healthy |
19 | | development of young people; she was a founding board member of |
20 | | Lost Boyz Inc., a not-for-profit organization founded by her |
21 | | oldest grandson and his sister in 2008, which focuses on |

1 | | preventing youth violence and development through sports; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield was the matriarch of the Chicago |
3 | | branch of her family, with well over 300 members in Chicago and |
4 | | across Illinois; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield enjoyed knitting, crocheting, |
6 | | and participating in church functions; her door was always open |
7 | | to everyone and she never turned anyone away; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield attended Our Lady of Peace |
9 | | Church, where she was an active member, serving for many years |
10 | | in the choir and various leadership groups; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield was preceded in death by her |
12 | | husbands, William Stewart and Edmond Winfield; her children, |
13 | | Helen and Keith Stewart; her parents; and her siblings, |
14 | | Barbara, Willa Mae, and Bernard Terry Jr.; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Frances Winfield is survived by her sons, Ronald, |
16 | | Wayne, and Johnny; her daughters, Wanda, Dorothy, and Letita; |
17 | | her special friend, Milton Merriweather; 18 grandchildren; 29 |
18 | | great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of |
19 | | friends and relatives; therefore, be it

1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
2 | | Frances Joann Winfield, and extend our sincere condolences to |
3 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
4 | | further

5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the family of Frances Winfield as an expression of |
7 | | our deepest sympathy.
