2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Monsignor Virgil W. Mank, who passed away |
4 | | on June 28, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Msgr. Mank was born in New Baden to William C. and |
6 | | Louise A. (Weirich) Mank on December 25, 1939; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Msgr. Mank was ordained as a Priest at the |
8 | | Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield on May |
9 | | 22, 1965; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Msgr. Mank began his service in the Diocese of |
11 | | Springfield as Associate Pastor of St. Agnes Parish in |
12 | | Springfield from 1965 to 1969 and at Saint Elizabeth Parish in |
13 | | Granite City from 1969 to 1970; beginning in 1970, he served |
14 | | for five years as the Chaplain of the Newman Community at |
15 | | Eastern Illinois University in Charleston; he returned as |
16 | | Associate Pastor to SS. Peter & Paul Parish in Collinsville |
17 | | from 1975 to 1977 and as Co-Administrator at St. Mary in |
18 | | Taylorville and St. Rita in Kincaid from 1977 to 1979; he was |
19 | | named Pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption in Sainte Marie and |
20 | | St. Valentine at The Bend from 1979 to 1981; he served as |
21 | | Pastor at St. Cecelia in Glen Carbon from 1981 to 1988, at |
22 | | Saint Ambrose in Godfrey from 1988 to 2004, and at Saint Jerome |

1 | | in Troy from 2004 to 2009; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Msgr. Mank was appointed Dean of the Alton Deanery |
3 | | in 1987 until his retirement in 2009; he served as Parochial |
4 | | Administrator of the Diocese from October 3, 1999 to December |
5 | | 19, 1999; he received the honor as Chaplain to his Holiness |
6 | | (Monsignor) by St. John Paul II on February 19, 2002; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Msgr. Mank was preceded in death by his parents; |
8 | | his brother, Louis A. Mank; and his brothers-in-law, William |
9 | | Wadlow and Richard Geir; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Msgr. Mank is survived by his sisters, Darlene |
11 | | Wadlow, and Mary Geir; his brothers, Billy (Connie) Mank, James |
12 | | (Lynne) Mank, and Timothy (Michelle) Mank; and many nieces, |
13 | | nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; therefore, |
14 | | be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
17 | | Monsignor Virgil W. Mank, and extend our sincere condolences to |
18 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
19 | | further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to the family of Msgr. Mank as an expression of our |
