2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Philip Guentert, who passed away on |
4 | | November 7, 2016, at the age of 58; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Philip Guentert grew up in Cleveland, Ohio; he |
6 | | earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University and attended |
7 | | the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University |
8 | | for a master's of public policy; he earned his Juris Doctor |
9 | | from Harvard Law School; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Philip Guentert joined the Department of Justice |
11 | | as an assistant United States attorney in Chicago in 1990; he |
12 | | was the first chief of the office's public corruption section, |
13 | | overseeing a number of investigations and prosecutions of |
14 | | public officials; he was also the office's ethics and |
15 | | professional responsibility adviser; he worked on the |
16 | | prosecutions of former Illinois governors, George Ryan and Rod |
17 | | Blagojevich; he also worked on the Archer Daniels Midland |
18 | | price-fixing case in the 1990s; and

19 | | WHEREAS, In 2012, Philip Guentert and his wife, Monika |
20 | | Bickert, moved to San Jose, California, where he joined the |
21 | | United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of |
22 | | California; previously, they spent five years in Bangkok, where |
