2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Robert J. Nimits of Waukegan, who passed |
4 | | away on November 7, 2016, at the age of 91; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Nimits was born to Charles and Myrtle |
6 | | Nimits in 1924; during World War II, he was an Army ROTC |
7 | | instructor at the high school level; following the war, he |
8 | | enrolled at Northern Illinois University and graduated with an |
9 | | education degree in 1950; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Robert Nimits taught in Waukegan and Zion for 28 |
11 | | years; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Robert Nimits was a sports enthusiast and |
13 | | dedicated Chicago White Sox fan; he managed several church |
14 | | athletic teams for many years; affectionately known as |
15 | | "Volunteer Bob", he is best remembered for his volunteer |
16 | | service, especially at Victory/Vista Hospital, where he served |
17 | | every weekday until July of 2016; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Nimits was preceded in death by his |
19 | | parents; his sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Nimits, and Mary Hayes; |
20 | | his nephew, William "Bill" Hayes Jr.; and his close friend, |
21 | | Frieda Ernst; and
