SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sergeant Douglas J. Riney of Fairview,
4who passed away on October 19, 2016 from wounds received after
5encountering hostile enemy forces in Kabul, Afghanistan; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sgt. Douglas Riney was born on July 29, 1990 at
7Fort Stewart, Georgia; his parents were Dave and Pam Chabotte
8Riney; he married Kylie Eddy on December 29, 2012 in
9Farmington; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sgt. Douglas Riney was a graduate of Spoon River
11Valley High School; he was also a member of the Vintage Church
12in Texas and a proud volunteer firefighter of the Fairview Fire
13Department; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sgt. Douglas Riney entered active duty service in
15July of 2012 as a petroleum supply specialist; he was assigned
16to the Support Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry
17Division out of Fort Hood, Texas since December of 2012; he had
18previously deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom
19from July of 2014 to February of 2015 and in support of
20Operation Freedom's Sentinel from June of 2016 to October of
212016; and

1    WHEREAS, Sgt. Douglas Riney was the recipient of numerous
2awards and decorations, including the Purple Heart, the Bronze
3Star, the Army Commendation Medal, four Army Achievements
4Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense
5Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with three
6campaign stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the
7Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the
8Army Service Ribbon, and the NATO Medal; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sgt. Douglas Riney was an avid Green Bay Packers
10fan; he was a BMX bicycle rider who earned many awards and
11trophies; he enjoyed riding his motorcycle; he also loved to
12hunt and fish; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sgt. Douglas Riney is survived by his children,
14Elea and James Riney; his father, Dave (Kristie) Riney; his
15mother, Pam (Don) Boland; his siblings, Jeff Budd and Stacey
16(Ashley Ayers) Budd; his nieces and nephews, Cailee Budd,
17Kambell, Payton, Avari, and Asher McDermet, and Kinsley Brown;
18his stepbrothers, Bryce and Kole Vaughn; his stepsister, Ashlie
19Herrin; his grandmothers, Nancy Riney and Linda Huntley; his
20mother-in-law and father-in-law, Randal and Donna Eddy; his
21sisters-in-law, Brandi Eddy and Janel (Doug) Brown; and many
22aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
23    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
2family and friends, mourn the passing of Sergeant Douglas J.
3Riney; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Sergeant Douglas Riney as an
6expression of our sympathy.
