| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Dr. Frank James Kerous IV, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on July 29, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV was born on March 26, 1940; | ||||||
6 | his parents were Frank and Lucille Kerous; he married Sandra | ||||||
7 | Erland on March 16, 1968; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV attended Morton High School, | ||||||
9 | where he excelled at academics, swimming, and was the editor in | ||||||
10 | chief of the 1957 Mortonian yearbook; after graduating in 1957, | ||||||
11 | he attended Knox College in Galesburg, with the intention of | ||||||
12 | pursuing the field of dentistry; while at Knox, he swam with | ||||||
13 | the Knox swimming team and wore his Knox letter jacket proudly | ||||||
14 | until his last days; he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon | ||||||
15 | Fraternity and was made an Honor Delta TKE in 1978; he was | ||||||
16 | elected to be a trustee of Knox College in 1974 and made a life | ||||||
17 | trustee in 2009; he was also president of the Knox Alumni | ||||||
18 | Association from 1974 to 1976 and chaired three capital fund | ||||||
19 | drives for his alma mater; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, After graduating from Knox College, Dr. Frank | ||||||
21 | Kerous IV attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where | ||||||
22 | he obtained a doctoral degree in dental surgery, followed by |

1 | two years of specialty training in periodontics; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV was one of the first | ||||||
3 | periodontists in the Chicago suburbs; he maintained offices in | ||||||
4 | Arlington Heights and Oak Brook for many years; while | ||||||
5 | maintaining his private practice, he also began teaching at the | ||||||
6 | University of Illinois at Chicago in 1964, spending 38 years in | ||||||
7 | the Department of Periodontics and eventually becoming a | ||||||
8 | tenured faculty member; following his retirement, he served as | ||||||
9 | the Clinical Director of Periodontics and spent most of his | ||||||
10 | time preparing senior students for board examination; he and | ||||||
11 | his wife also opened and operated McDonald's franchises in the | ||||||
12 | Glenview area in the late 1970s; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV and his wife were early | ||||||
14 | members of Christ Church of Oak Brook, where he was secretary | ||||||
15 | of the board of elders for many years; he was pleased to have | ||||||
16 | been the principal architect of the Christ Church endowment | ||||||
17 | fund in 1980; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV is survived by his wife, | ||||||
19 | Sandra; his children, Karen (Richard) Kooy, Kathryn (David) | ||||||
20 | Voss, and Frank (Emily) Kerous V; and his grandchildren, Luke, | ||||||
21 | Julia, Joshua, Matthew, Elliana, Carrigan, and Annabel; | ||||||
22 | therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
3 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Dr. Frank James Kerous | ||||||
4 | IV; and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Dr. Frank Kerous IV as an expression | ||||||
7 | of our sympathy.
