SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bill Knight of Evanston, who passed away
4on September 25, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bill Knight was born in Moberly, Missouri to
6Albert Avery and Lona Mae (Capps) Knight on April 15, 1928; he
7graduated from Carthage High School in 1946 and attended
8Western Illinois State Teachers College; he married Betty Lou
9Stark on February 4, 1949; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bill Knight had a 40-year career at Western
11Illinois Electric Co-op, where he was a groundman, lineman,
12engineer, and supervisor; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In retirement, Bill Knight taught himself piano,
14woodworking, furniture refinishing, and clock repair; he was
15interested in genealogy and traced his family to Robert De Dene
16in England before the time of William the Conqueror; he enjoyed
17following the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears, playing
18bridge or his ukulele, listening to jazz (especially
19Dixieland), mowing and clearing snow on his Kubota, having
20"coffee with the boys" at Ayerco in Carthage, and golfing,
21making six holes-in-one over a 10-year span; and

1    WHEREAS, Bill Knight was a volunteer with the SHARE food
2program in Hancock County; he was a former Elder with the
3Elvaston Community Church; he valued his faith and loved
4reading, especially humorists, history, and his favorite book,
5"To Kill a Mockingbird", which he read dozens of times; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bill Knight was preceded in death by his wife,
7Betty; his parents; and a great group of animals, from Duke and
8Bucky to Benji and Em, a one-eyed cat he rescued from a ditch;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bill Knight is survived by his sons, Bill (Terry)
11Knight Jr., and Tracy (Sharon) Knight; his grandson, Russell
12Baker; his sister, Bonnie Graves; several nieces and nephews;
13his friend, Tina Harl; and his rescue dog, Molly, "the nicest
14girl in town"; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Bill Knight, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
18friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Bill Knight as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
