2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Iberia Beatrice Hampton, who passed away |
4 | | on October 16, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was born on February 5, 1922 in |
6 | | Haynesville, Louisiana; her parents were Elihue and Lizzie |
7 | | White; she married Francis Allen Hampton in November of 1944; |
8 | | and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton graduated from elementary school |
10 | | and high school in Haynesville, Louisiana and attended |
11 | | Grambling College; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton retired from Corn Products in Argo |
13 | | after many years of service as a union steward; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was a committed activist who was |
15 | | involved in many civil rights and community organizations; she |
16 | | was also famous for her "down-home" cooking, which fed |
17 | | countless people in her neighborhood; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was baptized and raised as a member |
19 | | of the Bethel Baptist Church in Haynesville, Louisiana; after |
20 | | moving to Illinois, she became a longtime member of Mt. Calvary |

1 | | Baptist Church in Morgan Park; she later joined Rock of Ages |
2 | | Baptist Church in Maywood; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton was preceded in death by her |
4 | | husband, Francis, and her son, Frederick "Fred"; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Iberia Hampton is survived by her children, |
6 | | William "Bill" and Delores Smith; her grandchildren, Fred |
7 | | Hampton, Jr., Danard (Regina) Edwards, and Octavia Smith; her |
8 | | great-grandchildren, Tanetra (Derek) Patterson, Byron, |
9 | | Khadiyah, Danard Jr. (Juanita), and Tanyia; her |
10 | | great-great-grandchildren, Damijaek, Dontrell, Daisha, Deron, |
11 | | Destin, Makeilia, Rodney, Danariah, Danard III, Daniya, |
12 | | Danila, and Danilo; her godsons, Marvin, Willie, and Chester; |
13 | | her special niece, Betty Ann; her special friends, the Herring |
14 | | family, Emma Anderson, Kevin Johnson, Dolores J. Smith, Bill |
15 | | Taylor, Jeff Haas, Flint Taylor, and James Montgomery; and many |
16 | | other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; |
17 | | therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her |
20 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Iberia Beatrice |
21 | | Hampton; and be it further

22 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
