1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Sidney G. "Sid" Sorensen of Huntley, who |
4 | | passed away on September 16, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Sidney Sorensen was born in Withee, Wisconsin to |
6 | | Sigurd and Esther (Johnson) Sorensen on June 8, 1937; he served |
7 | | in the United States Army, spending a tour of duty in France |
8 | | during the late 1950s; he obtained a master's degree in |
9 | | education from Wisconsin State University, Eau Claire; he also |
10 | | attended Northwestern University, the Illinois Institute of |
11 | | Technology, the University of Oregon, and Northern Illinois |
12 | | University; he married Donna Herington on August 19, 1967 and |
13 | | they settled in Crystal Lake; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Sidney Sorensen taught at John Muir Jr. High |
15 | | School in Wausau, Wisconsin, Cary-Grove High School from 1964 |
16 | | to 1978, and Crystal Lake South High School from 1978 to 1996; |
17 | | he also taught part time at McHenry County College; after |
18 | | retirement, he tutored students in mathematics; he coached |
19 | | wrestling and varsity golf, earning the Illinois High School |
20 | | Association State Championship in 1980; he coached individual |
21 | | State Champion, Pete Leveille in 1981; in May 1995, he was |
22 | | inducted into the Illinois High School Golf Association Hall of |
23 | | Fame; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Sidney Sorensen was affectionately known as |
2 | | "Pop"; he and his wife moved to the Sun City retirement |
3 | | community in 2007; he was an active member of St. Barnabas |
4 | | Lutheran Church in Cary and Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran |
5 | | Church in Huntley; he was a member of the National Education |
6 | | Association; he organized servant trips to the Northern |
7 | | Illinois Food Bank and drove for Golden Diners; he was a |
8 | | Salvation Army Bell Ringer and participated with the Relay for |
9 | | Life; he served on many church committees; he especially |
10 | | enjoyed family celebrations, playing golf and cards, camping, |
11 | | traveling, and receiving visitors; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Sidney Sorensen was preceded in death by his |
13 | | parents; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Sidney Sorensen is survived by his wife, Donna; |
15 | | his daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Kolar; his son, Erik Sorensen |
16 | | (Maria Lefkow); his grandchildren, Bailey and Parker Cox, and |
17 | | Luke, Brandon, and Sydney Sorensen; his sister, Shirley |
18 | | (Sorensen) Willis; his sister-in-law, Diane (Ray) Johnson; his |
19 | | brother-in-law, Larry (Diane) Herington; his nieces and |
20 | | nephews, Rick (Terri) Nygren, Nancy Nygren, Teri (Gregg) |
21 | | Kenyon, Amy (Kevin) Franks, Tim (Anne) Johnson, Kari (Mike) |
22 | | Johnson, Tina (Bill) Flink, and Lara (Luke) Johnson; and many |
23 | | cousins; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Sidney G. "Sid" Sorensen, and extend our sincere condolences to |
4 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
5 | | further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Sidney Sorensen as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
