|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of George E. McGreer of Illinois City, who |
4 | | passed away on October 11, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer was born on July 5, 1929 on the |
6 | | family farm near Illinois City; his parents were Harry and Emma |
7 | | Moser McGreer; he married Marian Linde on July 5, 1953 at the |
8 | | Messiah Lutheran Church in Aledo; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer served in the United States Army |
10 | | 1st Infantry Division in Nuremberg, Germany from 1951 to 1953; |
11 | | and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer graduated from Reynolds High |
13 | | School and from Muscatine Community College in 1949; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer was a farmer, raising livestock and |
15 | | crops; he enjoyed running farm equipment and continued to farm |
16 | | into his 80s; he also built two houses and repaired many farm |
17 | | buildings; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer was a lifelong member of the Pine |
19 | | Bluff and Illinois City United Methodist Church; and
|
|

1 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer enjoyed his grandchildren and |
2 | | followed their activities; he also enjoyed following the sports |
3 | | and activities of his sons; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer was preceded in death by his |
5 | | parents; a brother; and a great-granddaughter; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, George McGreer is survived by his wife of 63 |
7 | | years, Marian McGreer; his sons, Bret (Paulette) McGreer, Brian |
8 | | (Tammy) McGreer, and Barry (Donna) McGreer; his grandchildren, |
9 | | Lindsey (Luke), Tricia (Zach), Afton (Ben), Kelsey, Melissa |
10 | | (Ryan), Samantha (Hunter), Brianna, Connor, and Joscelyn; |
11 | | eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Evelyn Dorothy |
12 | | (Ward); therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
15 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of George E. McGreer; and |
16 | | be it further
|
17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of George McGreer as an expression of |
19 | | our sympathy.
