2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Dr. Thompson T. Wright Sr., who passed | ||||||
4 | away on September 27, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. was born in Middleton, Prince | ||||||
6 | Edward Island (PEI), Canada on July 5, 1919; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Wales College, Charlottetown, PEI in 1939 and became the | ||||||
8 | principal of a two-room country schoolhouse on the island; in | ||||||
9 | 1939, he joined the Canadian Army and was mobilized to England | ||||||
10 | during World War II; he served as an artillery surveyor and | ||||||
11 | gunnery officer in Europe from January 1940 to January 1946; he | ||||||
12 | graduated from the British Royal Artillery Officers Training in | ||||||
13 | 1943 and was discharged with the rank of Captain in 1946; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. attended the University of British | ||||||
15 | Columbia from 1946 to 1947; he graduated from Ontario | ||||||
16 | Veterinary College, University of Toronto in 1952; he was an | ||||||
17 | intern with Misener Animal Hospital in Chicago, and then in | ||||||
18 | 1954, he purchased property on River Road in Des Plaines, which | ||||||
19 | would become the Wright Animal Hospital, which he owned and | ||||||
20 | operated until his retirement in October 1981; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. was elected President of the Des | ||||||
22 | Plaines Kiwanis Club in 1959; he was elected Des Plaines Park |

1 | District Commissioner in 1976, serving for a total of 26 years; | ||||||
2 | he was a life member of the Des Plaines Elks Club; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. served as President of the Illinois | ||||||
4 | Academy of Veterinary Medicine in 1974, as Executive Director | ||||||
5 | of the Illinois Academy of Veterinary Medicine from 1975 to | ||||||
6 | 1976, and on the board of directors for the Chicago Veterinary | ||||||
7 | Medical Association from 1958 to 1963 and from 1976 to 1980, | ||||||
8 | serving as President in 1980; he also served on the board of | ||||||
9 | directors for Community Chest from 1956 to 1958 and on the | ||||||
10 | board of directors for the Boy Scouts of America from 1955 to | ||||||
11 | 1958; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. was preceded in death by his first | ||||||
13 | wife, Shirley Trowbridge; his second wife, Janet Howell; his | ||||||
14 | brothers, Arthur and Eldon Wright; and his son, William Wright; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. is survived by nine children; 17 | ||||||
17 | grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marian | ||||||
18 | MacDonald; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Dr. Thompson T. Wright Sr., and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
22 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Dr. Wright Sr. as an expression of | ||||||
4 | our deepest sympathy.
