2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Joseph Michael "Mike" McKeon of Joliet, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on September 15, 2016 at the age of 73; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon was a veteran of the United States | ||||||
6 | Navy; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon was an esteemed political | ||||||
8 | strategist, pollster, and analyst whose advice was sought by | ||||||
9 | Republicans and Democrats alike; countless state and national | ||||||
10 | political organizations depended on him to have the pulse of | ||||||
11 | the electorate and relied on his bluntness, street smarts and | ||||||
12 | political savvy; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon formed his global public opinion | ||||||
14 | research and strategic marketing firm, McKeon and Associates, | ||||||
15 | in 1973; his polling and analysis of the changing American | ||||||
16 | cultural paradigm have been featured in nearly all major media | ||||||
17 | outlets around the globe; he led research and strategy for more | ||||||
18 | than 700 political candidates on both sides of the aisle and | ||||||
19 | had major corporate clients such as Gatorade, Commonwealth | ||||||
20 | Edison, Walmart, and the Chicago Bulls; he also served as a | ||||||
21 | political script consultant on Saturday Night Live for many | ||||||
22 | years; and

1 | WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon polled national and statewide races | ||||||
2 | from coast to coast; he was nationally recognized for his | ||||||
3 | astute ability to identify national and international trends | ||||||
4 | and bake them into winning marketing and political strategies; | ||||||
5 | he was also ahead of his time in analyzing moods and trends | ||||||
6 | among voters and penned a 1994 Washington Post column in which | ||||||
7 | he outlined the evolving media landscape and the way digital | ||||||
8 | technology was supplanting traditional forms of | ||||||
9 | communications; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Joseph McKeon is survived by his daughters, Meghan | ||||||
11 | (Bucky) Moreno and Zora Baron; his grandchildren, Sophia and | ||||||
12 | Isabella Moreno and Joe and Lauren; his siblings, Linda | ||||||
13 | (Kenneth) Joslin, Lynn (Edward) Masters, Robert (Linda) | ||||||
14 | Conrad, and Cary J. Conrad; many nieces and nephews; and his | ||||||
15 | faithful friends, Jimmy Wheeler and Tim McAnarney; therefore, | ||||||
16 | be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
19 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Joseph Michael "Mike" | ||||||
20 | McKeon; and be it further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Joseph McKeon as an expression of |
