SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Paul Green, who passed away on September
410, 2016 at the age of 73; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Green grew up on Chicago's west and north
6sides; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in history and political
7science at the University of Illinois and his Master of Arts
8and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Paul Green was an Arthur Rubloff Professor of
10Policy Studies at Roosevelt University and served as Director
11of Roosevelt University's Institute for Politics; he served as
12a political analyst for WGN Radio; he was a guest columnist for
13Crain's Chicago Business; he also served as the Monee Township
14Supervisor from 1977 to 1983; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Paul Green was a member of the City Club of
16Chicago; he served as a City Club governor for over 25 years,
17both as treasurer and, since 2011, as chairman; the City Club
18of Chicago wrote of his "boundless commitment to the free
19exchange of ideas in a forum of civility, respect, and always,
20good humor"; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Paul Green was the author of several books and

1articles on Illinois and Chicago politics, including "World War
2II Chicago" and "The Mayors: The Chicago Political Tradition",
3which he co-authored with Melvin G. Holli; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Paul Green was frequently quoted and interviewed
5by the national news organizations for his views on the
6American political scene and his name appeared frequently as an
7expert in news stories in the New York Times, the Washington
8Post, Time, and Newsweek; he also lectured at universities in
9Europe, Asia, and Africa and was one of only a few American
10academics and journalists to travel with the candidates for
11British Prime Minister in 1997; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Paul Green was preceded in death by his son,
13Robert; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Paul Green is survived by his wife of 47 years,
15Sharon, and his daughter, Sarah; he was a devoted family man;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
19family and friends, mourn the passing of Paul Green; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
