SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of David Root of Sherman, who passed away on 
4September 7, 2016; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, David Root was born in DeKalb to James and Beverly 
6Root on February 23, 1974; he graduated from Hampshire High 
7School in 1992; he earned his bachelor's degree from Western 
8Illinois University in 1997 and his master's degree from the 
9University of Illinois at Springfield; he attained his 
10Superintendent Endorsement from Illinois State University; he 
11married Julie Smith in Decatur on August 5, 2000; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, David Root served as Superintendent of the 
13Williamsville-Sherman School District since 2007; he worked as 
14an administrator in the Greenview and Athens School Districts 
15from 2002 through 2007; he taught and coached in Williamsville 
16prior to his administrative service; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, David Root received the University of Illinois at 
18Springfield Administrators' Round Table Citation for 
19Distinguished Professional Service (2009-2010), where he 
20served as President; in 2015, he was awarded Superintendent of 
21Distinction from the Illinois Association of School 
22Administrators Abe Lincoln Region and the Superintendent of the

1Year from Horace Mann; he was honored with an Award of 
2Excellence from the Villages of Sherman and Williamsville in 
32015; and
 
4    WHEREAS, David Root was a dedicated family man and enjoyed 
5watching his children participate in their activities; he was a 
6talented musician and athlete and had the unique ability to be 
7the funniest person in the room; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, David Root was preceded in death by his father, 
9James Root; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, David Root is survived by his wife, Julie; his 
11children, Mia and Dalton; his mother, Beverly; his  brother, 
12Darren (Kim) Root; his sisters, Dawn (Steve) McGrath, Darla 
13(Hank) Gunn, Debbie (Deron) Rueff, and Dyan Lausas; his father 
14and mother-in-law, David and Susan Smith; his sisters-in-law, 
15Janet Smith, Jennifer (Andy) Smith-Multerer, and Colleen 
16Smith; his brother-in-law, Kevin (Sara) Smith; and his nieces 
17and nephews, Carson and Morgan Root, Chris and Nick McGrath, 
18Kevin, Kyle, Kelly, and Katie McCarthy, Mitchel and Elaina 
19Gunn, Jackson, Taylor, and Grant Rueff, Brittney Lausas, and 
20Ethan and Max Smith; therefore, be it
  
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1David Root, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, 
2friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
  
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
4presented to  the family of  David Root as an expression of our 
5deepest sympathy.
