SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harold Karl Johnson of Peoria, who passed
4away on August 6, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was born in Moline to Carl and
6Bessie Nelson Johnson on November 24, 1929; he served in the
7United States Army and married Barbara Anne Liedtke in
8Davenport, Iowa on February 20, 1954; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was employed by John Deere Plow
10Planter Works for 32 years, retiring in 1984; he served on the
11Moline City Council for 12 years, where he chaired the Finance
12Committee and was mayor pro tem; he was instrumental in the
13Moline RiverFest and Ben Butterworth Parkway development; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was an elder and treasurer at Holy
15Cross Lutheran Church in Moline; he was a member of the board
16of directors of the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club; he was an
17avid golfer and sportsman and followed the Cubs, Bears, Bulls,
18Illini, and Tampa Bay Rays; he loved his kids and grandkids and
19attended all of their events and graduations; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Harold Johnson was preceded in death by his
21son-in-law, Joseph Messing, and his siblings, Judy Smith, Lois

1Swanson, and Leonard Johnson; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Harold Johnson is survived by his wife, Barbara;
3his children, Marci Messing, Mark (Karen) Johnson, and Scott
4(Michelle) Johnson; his grandchildren, Michael (Autumn)
5Messing, Molly Messing (Ryan Abbott), Sarah Messing, Derek
6Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; and
7his brother and sisters-in-law, Paul and Darlene Johnson, and
8Marilyn Johnson; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Harold Karl Johnson, and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Harold Johnson as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
