|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of James Edward Gallagher, who passed away |
4 | | on May 18, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher was born on February 18, 1926; his |
6 | | parents were Albert and Catherine Gallagher; he married Mary |
7 | | Jean Bure on January 30, 1954; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher graduated from Waukegan High |
9 | | School; he later attended the Conservatory of Music in Chicago; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher served in the United States Army |
12 | | Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator in Iran, |
13 | | Turkey, and the Persian Gulf; he was a member of Veterans of |
14 | | Foreign Wars #1293 for over 60 years; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher was a Local 63 Ironworker, but |
16 | | could perform most any trade; he worked in the family business, |
17 | | the McKinney Harrington Conveyor Company; in 1966, he |
18 | | co-founded the North Chicago Iron Works; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher played piano, saxophone, and the |
20 | | clarinet, which he called his licorice stick; he played in a |
|

1 | | swing band at local dance halls and supper clubs while in high |
2 | | school; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher worked with his family at P.A.D.S. |
4 | | (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) for 25 years; he was a Third |
5 | | Degree Knight of Columbus, Waukegan #731 for over 50 years and |
6 | | a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; he and his |
7 | | sons also helped wheelchair-bound veterans to attend the church |
8 | | services at the Downey Veterans Hospital; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher was a member of St. Anastasia |
10 | | Roman Catholic Church for 60 years; he was also a member of the |
11 | | Holy Name Society for over 50 years and was a bingo captain for |
12 | | many decades; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher enjoyed traveling with his family |
14 | | on many road trips throughout the world; he enjoyed dancing |
15 | | with his wife, especially polkas; he liked anything old and |
16 | | American-made, leading to his extensive collection of antique |
17 | | radios, cars, and motorcycles; he was also a member of the |
18 | | Antique Motorcycle Club, the Henderson Club, and the Antique |
19 | | Model T Club; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher was preceded in death by his |
21 | | beloved wife, Mary Jean; his parents; his brother, Albert; and |
22 | | his grandchildren, Thomas, Joseph, and Brianna; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, James Gallagher was the father of James, Mark |
2 | | (Darlene), Ruth Ann, Jean Marie (Kurt), Mary Elaine (Michael), |
3 | | John (Elaine), Diane Lynn (Andy), and Kate Lynn (Scotty); the |
4 | | brother-in-law of John (Dawn) Bure and Ruth Ann (Jack O'Brien); |
5 | | the grandfather of Kathy (Ramon), Steven (Cristi), |
6 | | Christopher, Sarah (Caleb), Megan (Chris), Kathleen (Brock), |
7 | | Christina, James, Daniel, Andrew, Caryn (Alex), Sean, Angelyn, |
8 | | Lynsey, Nicholas, Riley, Mikayla, and Curtis; the |
9 | | great-grandfather of Xavier, Abel, Ayden, Addison, Cassidy, |
10 | | Taylor, Lawrence, Olivia, Christopher, Connor, Cody, and |
11 | | Kevin; and the godfather, uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend |
12 | | of many; therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
15 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of James Edward |
16 | | Gallagher; and be it further
|
17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of James Gallagher as an expression of |
19 | | our sympathy.
