SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Automated traffic law enforcement systems were
3justified as public and vehicle safety tools; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Studies have shown that annual crashes have
5remained about the same before and after the installation of
6the cameras; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Municipal officials and camera company executives
8have been arrested in red light camera corruption schemes; and
 
9    WHEREAS, It is a goal of this body to provide greater
10transparency and accountability in automated traffic law
11enforcement systems; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the Auditor General is
14directed to conduct an audit of evaluating automated traffic
15law enforcement systems in this State; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That the audit include, but not be limited to,
17the overall operation, usage, and regulation of the automated
18traffic law enforcement systems and any other information or
19recommendations the Auditor General deems necessary; and be it
20further

1    RESOLVED, That the Department of Transportation and any
2other State agency or other entity having information relevant
3to this audit cooperate fully and promptly with the Auditor
4General's Office in the conduct of this audit; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That the Auditor General commence this audit as
7soon as possible and report its findings and recommendations
8upon completion in accordance with the provisions of Section
93-14 of the Illinois State Auditing Act; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11delivered to the Auditor General and the Secretary of the
12Illinois Department of Transportation.
