SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marjorie L. Stevens of Richmond, who
4passed away on April 26, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was born in Libertyville to
6Irving and Georgia (Vasey) Townsend on October 15, 1930; she
7graduated from Richmond-Burton High School in 1948 and married
8J. Robert Stevens Sr. in Richmond on March 5, 1949; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was the first woman bus driver
10for Richmond-Burton Schools; she drove for 33 years, retiring
11in 1995; she also served as dispatcher for the Richmond Fire
12Department; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was a charter member of the
14Richmond Trailblazers and a Cub Scout den mother; she received
15the Richmond Rotary "Person of the Year" award in 1999; she was
16an avid supporter of her children, grandchildren, and
17great-grandchildren's extra-curricular activities; she drove
18countless students on her bus routes over the years and, later
19on, their kids, always referring to each of them as "one of her
20kids"; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was preceded in death by her

1parents; her husband, Robert; her daughter, Judy Stevens; her
2granddaughter, Melissa Petska; her great-grandson, Braden
3Petska; her two sisters, Shirley Nelson and Georgia Brough; her
4brother, Richard Townsend; and her brother-in-law, Robert
5Edinger; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens is survived by her three
7daughters, Lois (Harvey) Petska, Pam Kopacz (Dave Palcek), and
8Anna Penza (Jim Ross); her four sons, Bill (LaVerne) Stevens,
9Ray (Peg) Stevens, Bob (Joy) Stevens Jr., and Larry (Marlene)
10Stevens; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her five
11sisters, Rosella Edinger, Joan Miller, Luella (Ken) Bishop,
12Betty (Dave) Gregory, and Charlotte (Steve) Schaid; her three
13brothers, Irving (Beverly) Townsend, Wendell Townsend, and
14Donald (Edie) Townsend; and her two brothers-in-law, Richard
15Nelson and Harry Brough; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Marjorie L. Stevens, and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Marjorie Stevens as an expression of
23our deepest sympathy.
