|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Marjorie L. Stevens of Richmond, who |
4 | | passed away on April 26, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was born in Libertyville to |
6 | | Irving and Georgia (Vasey) Townsend on October 15, 1930; she |
7 | | graduated from Richmond-Burton High School in 1948 and married |
8 | | J. Robert Stevens Sr. in Richmond on March 5, 1949; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was the first woman bus driver |
10 | | for Richmond-Burton Schools; she drove for 33 years, retiring |
11 | | in 1995; she also served as dispatcher for the Richmond Fire |
12 | | Department; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was a charter member of the |
14 | | Richmond Trailblazers and a Cub Scout den mother; she received |
15 | | the Richmond Rotary "Person of the Year" award in 1999; she was |
16 | | an avid supporter of her children, grandchildren, and |
17 | | great-grandchildren's extra-curricular activities; she drove |
18 | | countless students on her bus routes over the years and, later |
19 | | on, their kids, always referring to each of them as "one of her |
20 | | kids"; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens was preceded in death by her |

1 | | parents; her husband, Robert; her daughter, Judy Stevens; her |
2 | | granddaughter, Melissa Petska; her great-grandson, Braden |
3 | | Petska; her two sisters, Shirley Nelson and Georgia Brough; her |
4 | | brother, Richard Townsend; and her brother-in-law, Robert |
5 | | Edinger; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Marjorie Stevens is survived by her three |
7 | | daughters, Lois (Harvey) Petska, Pam Kopacz (Dave Palcek), and |
8 | | Anna Penza (Jim Ross); her four sons, Bill (LaVerne) Stevens, |
9 | | Ray (Peg) Stevens, Bob (Joy) Stevens Jr., and Larry (Marlene) |
10 | | Stevens; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her five |
11 | | sisters, Rosella Edinger, Joan Miller, Luella (Ken) Bishop, |
12 | | Betty (Dave) Gregory, and Charlotte (Steve) Schaid; her three |
13 | | brothers, Irving (Beverly) Townsend, Wendell Townsend, and |
14 | | Donald (Edie) Townsend; and her two brothers-in-law, Richard |
15 | | Nelson and Harry Brough; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Marjorie L. Stevens, and extend our sincere condolences to her |
19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
20 | | further

21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
22 | | presented to the family of Marjorie Stevens as an expression of |
23 | | our deepest sympathy.
