SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ronald L. "Ron" Tendick of Jacksonville,
4who passed away on March 27, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick was born on April 18, 1942 in
6Jacksonville; his parents were Lee O. and Marjorie I. DeLong
7Tendick; he married Rosemary Dawson on June 30, 1967 in
8Jacksonville; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick was a 1960 graduate of Jacksonville
10High School; he then attended Illinois College, which presented
11him with an honorary Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Music was an important part of Ronald Tendick's
13life since his time in the Jacksonville High School Band; after
14high school, he played with three bands, including The
15Dynamics, The Clarke Brothers, and The Sound Organization,
16where he became known as "Rockin Ron"; and
 
17    WHEREAS, From 1969 to 1985, Ronald Tendick served as News
18and Sports Director at WLDS/WEAI Radio, where he became
19well-known for covering the City Council and broadcasting high
20school sports in west central Illinois, often with his
21long-time friend and fellow broadcaster, Jerry Symons; he later

1joined Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville as their Community
2Relations Director from 1985 to 1989; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick was elected to serve as
4Jacksonville's 5th Ward Alderman in 1987; he then left the
5hospital following his successful election as Mayor of
6Jacksonville in 1989; he served as Mayor for five terms,
7serving for 20 years until his retirement in 2009; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick was a devoted community servant; he
9served on the boards of the Prairieland United Way, the
10Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois Municipal
11League, and the Illinois News Broadcasters; he was a founding
12member and past chairman of the Jacksonville Regional Economic
13Development Corporation; he was a past chairman of the
14Passavant Area Hospital board of directors and a past president
15and member of the Jacksonville Rotary Club; he was also a
16member and vice chairman of Network Knowledge (Public
17Television), committee chairman for the Passavant Hospital
18Foundation, and vice president of the Jacksonville Area
19Visitors and Convention Bureau; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick was a devoted member of Westfair
21Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for
22young people and later for adult classes for many years; he was
23an integral part of the music ministry of the church, singing

1in the choir, playing his guitar, and providing vocal solos;
2his love and interest in young people carried through his role
3as Mayor, where he was often seen communicating with children
4in schools, camps, and public events; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick enjoyed restoring antique cars,
6working in his flower beds, researching genealogy, studying
7history, drinking coffee at the Elks Club, playing Farkle, and
8relaxing with his family; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick was preceded in death by his
10parents and his sister, Doris Kennedy; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ronald Tendick is survived by his wife, Rosemary;
12his daughter, Lana (Joe) Keen; his son, Lane (Rachel) Tendick;
13his grandchildren, Levi Rogers, Katie Purdue, and Pvt. James
14Purdue; and his two nieces; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Ronald L. "Ron"
18Tendick; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Ronald Tendick as an expression of
21our sympathy.
