SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Melvin Thornhill Sr. of Gillespie, who
4passed away on April 2, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Melvin Thornhill Sr. was born in Alton to Huebert
6Thornhill and Hilda (Dittmeyer) on November 17, 1930; he served
7in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a
8signal man and telegraph specialist; he married Betty Rose
9Griffin in Alton on June 24, 1961; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Melvin Thornhill Sr. worked in maintenance for
11McDonnell Douglas for 23 years; he also worked for Western
12Military Academy in Alton in 1948, the Usher State Street
13Theater in Alton, the Olin Glass Co., and The Coliseum in
14Benld; he was a self-employed painter; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Melvin Thornhill Sr. was a member of the American
16Legion in Bunker Hill; he was a Little League and soccer coach,
17and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors; he loved his grandkids
18and was a family man; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Melvin Thornhill Sr. was preceded in death by his
20wife, Betty; his parents; his son, William Joseph Thornhill;
21one brother; his 10 sisters; and his granddaughter, Heather

2    WHEREAS, Melvin Thornhill Sr. is survived by his children,
3Gary (Christy) Thornhill, Melvin (Kim) Thornhill, and Carla and
4(Kurt) Kozak; his grandchildren, Nathan Thornhill, Justine
5Thornhill, Kayla Thornhill, Joshua Kozak, Amanda Kozak,
6Nicolas Thornhill, William Thornhill, Samantha Larimore,
7Alisha Horan, and Bayleigh Thornhill; his great-grandchildren,
8Colton, Mason, Adelin, Jase, Logan, Jayden, Landon, Lakin, and
9Austin; his sibling, Chicky Bailey; his sister-in-law,
10Florence Griffin; his brother-in-law, Louis Sommars; and
11numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Melvin Thornhill Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Melvin Thornhill Sr. as an
19expression of our deepest sympathy.
