2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Denis Vardal of Joliet, who passed away |
4 | | on March 27, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Denis Vardal was born in Mykonos, Greece to Kosta |
6 | | and Kalliopi (Xidakis) Vardalahos on April 20, 1934; he was |
7 | | adopted later in life by Yanni Koukas, his mother's second |
8 | | husband; he came to the United States in 1953 in search of his |
9 | | brother, George, who emigrated two years earlier; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Denis Vardal served in the United States Army |
11 | | during the Korean War; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Denis Vardal founded Vardal Engineering Supply in |
13 | | 1958; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Denis Vardal was a member of Rotary International |
15 | | and the Rotary bowling team; he was a loving and devoted |
16 | | husband, father, and grandfather, and was a father and |
17 | | grandfather to all he met; he was personable, loving, and |
18 | | accepting, and left a lasting impression on everyone; he was a |
19 | | brilliantly passionate man with so many interests; his newest |
20 | | granddaughter, Danira, rarely left his lap; on sunny days, he |
21 | | could be found driving his Alpha Romeo; he loved beating |

1 | | challengers at cards, backgammon, and Jeopardy; he was a quiet |
2 | | and patient man who appreciated traveling to new and exotic |
3 | | places but always returned to his homeland, Mykonos, for the |
4 | | people, dancing, food, and fun; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Denis Vardal was preceded in death by his wife, |
6 | | Danira (Corso) Vardal; his parents; his brother, George |
7 | | (Sandra) Vardal; his two sisters in childhood; and his niece, |
8 | | Sande Vardal; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Denis Vardal is survived by his three loving |
10 | | daughters, Denise (Mark) Baker, Debra (Vasillios Korodimos) |
11 | | Vardal, and Dina Vardal; his three beloved grandchildren, |
12 | | Danira Aiginiti, Alexandros Aiginiti, and Danira Vardal; his |
13 | | niece, Laura Vardal; and his nephew, Paul (Marinela) Vardal; |
14 | | therefore, be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
17 | | Denis Vardal, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
18 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 | | presented to the family of Denis Vardal as an expression of our |
21 | | deepest sympathy.
