SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald James Lanpher of Rock Island, who
4passed away on March 25, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher was born on September 16, 1928 in
6Grand Rapids, Michigan; his parents were Gerald and Marian Tow
7Lanpher; his family eventually moved to East Moline, where he
8graduated from United Township High School in 1946; he married
9Jean Eileen Pulliam on December 10, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran
10Church in Rock Island; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher served in the United States Marine
12Corps from 1952 to 1954; he retired from the United States
13Department of the Army after 37 years of service in 1983,
14having risen from machinist apprentice to a chief in the
15Maintenance Directorate at the United States Armament Command
16at the Rock Island Arsenal; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher was a talented woodworker who loved
18working on his projects in his shop in the basement; he was a
19mechanic for a short time in the years after high school and
20maintained his fascination with cars throughout his life; one
21of his favorite activities was to travel the Midwest with his
22wife on the hunt for their antique collection; he was also very

1active in the National Active and Retired Federal Employees
2Association, Blackhawk Chapter 338; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher served as an elder at Holy Cross
4Missouri Synod Lutheran Church in Moline; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher was preceded in death by his
6parents; his wife, Jean; his son, John Lanpher; and his
7brother, Bob Lanpher; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher is survived by his daughter,
9Katherine Lanpher, and his grandsons, John Lanpher and Jason
10Lanpher; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald James Lanpher;
14and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Donald Lanpher as an expression of
17our sympathy.
