2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Donald James Lanpher of Rock Island, who |
4 | | passed away on March 25, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher was born on September 16, 1928 in |
6 | | Grand Rapids, Michigan; his parents were Gerald and Marian Tow |
7 | | Lanpher; his family eventually moved to East Moline, where he |
8 | | graduated from United Township High School in 1946; he married |
9 | | Jean Eileen Pulliam on December 10, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran |
10 | | Church in Rock Island; and

11 | | WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher served in the United States Marine |
12 | | Corps from 1952 to 1954; he retired from the United States |
13 | | Department of the Army after 37 years of service in 1983, |
14 | | having risen from machinist apprentice to a chief in the |
15 | | Maintenance Directorate at the United States Armament Command |
16 | | at the Rock Island Arsenal; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Donald Lanpher was a talented woodworker who loved |
18 | | working on his projects in his shop in the basement; he was a |
19 | | mechanic for a short time in the years after high school and |
20 | | maintained his fascination with cars throughout his life; one |
21 | | of his favorite activities was to travel the Midwest with his |
22 | | wife on the hunt for their antique collection; he was also very |
