SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bernard Charles "Bernie" Stonich of
4Plainfield, who passed away on March 10, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bernard Stonich was born in Joliet to Joseph and
6Justine (Kracker) Stonich on August 28, 1924; he graduated from
7Joliet Township High School and served in the United States
8Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS
9Saginaw Bay in the South Pacific; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bernard Stonich had a long career as a salesman,
11eventually retiring from Illinois Wine and Spirits; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bernard Stonich dedicated his life to veterans and
13their needs; he was a member and former Commander of the
14Plainfield American Legion Marne Post #13, member and former
15Commander of Cantigny Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #367, where
16he served many years as the Service Officer; he was the
17recipient of numerous awards and was recognized for his service
18to veterans and their families; many veterans will remember him
19for providing them transportation to and from Hines Veterans
20Administration Hospital; he was also active in the Associated
21Clubs of Greater Joliet and St. Mary Nativity Parish; and

1    WHEREAS, Bernard Stonich was preceded in death by his
2parents and his nine brothers and sisters; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bernard Stonich is survived by his wife of 69
4years, Shirley M. (Pubentz); his children, Deborah (Jack)
5McInerney and Duane (Robin) Stonich; his four grandchildren,
6Brock (Jennifer) Stonich, Brent (Samantha) Stonich, Cara
7McInerney, and Megan McInerney; and many nieces and nephews;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Bernard Charles "Bernie" Stonich, and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Bernard Stonich as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
