2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Gordon Von Bergen of Wonder Lake, who |
4 | | passed away on November 21, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was born in Evanston to Bernard |
6 | | and Esther (Sass) Von Bergen on January 7, 1941; he graduated |
7 | | from Arlington High School and married Patricia VanderKarr in |
8 | | Woodstock on August 5, 1967; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen farmed during his high school |
10 | | years in Elk Grove Village and then full time in Hebron until |
11 | | being drafted into the United States Army in 1965; he served in |
12 | | the Army from 1965 to 1967 in the Adjutant General office at |
13 | | Ft. Sheridan; he was Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) |
14 | | of the newly formed Casualty Branch and was responsible for all |
15 | | U.S. Army personal notification of next of kin and appointing |
16 | | an SAO for the family of a soldier who is deceased, Missing in |
17 | | Action, or Wounded in Action in Illinois, Wisconsin, and |
18 | | Minnesota; he reached the rank of Specialist E-5; he loved and |
19 | | was proud of serving his country; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen worked as a real estate broker |
21 | | for many years at Berkshire Hathaway, formerly Town Square |
22 | | Realty; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was a member of St. John's |
2 | | Lutheran Church in Woodstock, where he was active as a Trustee; |
3 | | he was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Woodstock Moose Lodge, |
4 | | and the National Rifle Association; he loved the outdoors, |
5 | | hunting, fishing, and traveling; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was preceded in death by his |
7 | | parents and an infant sister, Virginia; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen is survived by his wife, |
9 | | Patricia; his son, Brian (Erin) Von Bergen; his two daughters, |
10 | | Christine (Steve) Tarnoki and Suzanne (David) Tonyan; his five |
11 | | grandchildren, Gunnar Von Bergen, Mitchell and Kiefer Tarnoki, |
12 | | and Henry and Ella Tonyan; his two brothers, Mel (Bobette) Von |
13 | | Bergen and Glen (Nancy) Von Bergen; his three sisters, Esther |
14 | | (Jim) Goebbert, Lois (Wes) Plote, and Ruth Mecklenburg; and |
15 | | many wonderful nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Gordon Von Bergen, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
20 | | further
