2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Stephen R. Ellsworth of Edwardsville, who |
4 | | passed away on February 27, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Ellsworth was born in Vandalia to Ralph |
6 | | and Twila (Cunningham) Ellsworth on February 3, 1943; he |
7 | | attended Highland High School for 3 years and graduated from |
8 | | Edwardsville High School in 1961; he married Rae M. Yehling at |
9 | | the LeClaire Christian Church in Edwardsville on February 22, |
10 | | 1964; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Ellsworth owned and operated the Texaco |
12 | | Service Station on the corner of Buchanan and East Vandalia |
13 | | Streets in Edwardsville; he began a 48-year career with the |
14 | | State Farm Insurance Company in 1967, sharing an office with |
15 | | his father for many years; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Ellsworth served as Mayor of the City of |
17 | | Edwardsville from 1977 to 1981; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Ellsworth was a member and past President |
19 | | of the Board of the First Christian Church in Edwardsville; he |
20 | | served on the City of Edwardsville Zoning Board and the Public |
21 | | Safety Facilities Committee; he served as President of the |

1 | | Edwardsville Jaycees of which he was a Jaycee Senator, as Board |
2 | | Member of the Boy Scouts of America, as past Chairman of the |
3 | | Greater Edwardsville Area Community Foundation, and as past |
4 | | President of the Edwardsville Rotary Club; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Ellsworth was preceded in death by his |
6 | | parents; his brothers-in-law, Gary Baker and Ron Yehling; and |
7 | | his nephews, Scott Baker and Carter Albrecht; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Ellsworth is survived by his wife of 52 |
9 | | years, Rae; his daughter, Kris Ellsworth and husband, John |
10 | | Dickshot; his son, Kurt Ellsworth and wife, Janel; his |
11 | | grandchildren, Cameron, Jennie, Lily, and Cooper; his three |
12 | | sisters, Joan Baker, Judy Albrecht and husband, Ken, and Renee |
13 | | Allen and husband, Steve; and his nieces and nephews, Jill |
14 | | Findley and husband, Eric, Chelsea Pershall and husband, JR, |
15 | | Tad Allen and wife, Kaci, Samantha Allen, Rod Yehling, and |
16 | | Pamela Albrecht and husband, Richard; therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Stephen R. Ellsworth, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
20 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
21 | | further
