SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eugene L. "Gene" Adams of McHenry, who passed away on February 6, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Adams was born in McHenry to Lewis and Clara (nee Pitzen) Adams on June 13, 1920; he graduated from McHenry High School in 1938 and worked at Pitzen's Camp "The Bay" while going to high school and after graduation; at the age of 21, he was inducted into the United States Army and served during World War II from 1941 until 1945; as an infantryman, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, and a Purple Heart Medal; after his honorable discharge, he married Marion Hausheer at St. Mary Church in McHenry on August 22, 1946; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Adams worked for Henry Muntz & Son of Elgin as an on-the-road hardware salesman; one of his accounts was Lee & Ray Electric, and in the early 1950s, he joined the business as part-owner; his role grew until ownership was turned over to his sons, Paul and Greg in December of 1973; from 1974 to his retirement in June of 1985, he worked for Englewood Electrical Supply; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Adams enjoyed fishing, gardening, and getting together with his friends; his monthly card club gathering with his buddies spanned 70 years; he often referred to himself as the V.P. of the L.C.G. (the Leinenkugal Choral Group), an annual fishing trip at Clam Lake; he volunteered, along with his wife, for the FISH food pantry in McHenry; he was a longtime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Mary Court 594; he was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church in McHenry, where he ushered; he was also a member and past President of the McHenry Kiwanis, where he organized the Peanut Day fundraiser for several years; he was also involved with the beginning of Little League Baseball in McHenry and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 in McHenry; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Adams was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion; his son, Greg; and his brother, Charles "Bud" "Sharky" Adams; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Adams is survived by his 5 children, John "Jack" (Janet) Adams, Paul (Marjory) Adams, Mark (Sharon) Adams, Mary (Tom) Knaack, and Patricia (Mark) Giacomo; his 14 grandchildren; and his 5 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eugene L. "Gene" Adams, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eugene Adams as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
