SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald W. Harmening of East Moline, who
4passed away on February 17, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Harmening was born in East Moline to Henry
6"Red" and Dorothy L. Harsch Harmening on January 16, 1934; he
7attended United Township High School and proudly served in the
8United States Army from 1954 to 1957, where he was stationed in
9Japan and Korea; he married Dorothy J. Sullivan in Rock Island
10on January 18, 1958; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Donald Harmening and his family owned and operated
12Red's Garage in East Moline from 1937 until he retired in 2015;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Donald Harmening was a member of the former
15Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Moline; he then became a
16member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Moline; he was active in
17the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 9-1; he enjoyed cars, scuba
18diving, traveling, camping, and especially boating; his taco
19parties were enjoyed by many; most of all, he enjoyed spending
20time with his family and friends; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Donald Harmening was preceded in death by his

1parents; his brother, Richard; his sister, Beverly Jean
2Harmening Lowe; and his granddaughter, Audrey Nicole
3Harmening; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Donald Harmening is survived by his wife of 58
5years, Dorothy; his children, Diane "Rusty" Harmening, Darrell
6(Marilee) Harmening, Dana (Thomas) Beachler, and Daniel "Buck"
7(Shannon) Harmening; his 8 grandchildren, Anna and Regina
8Harmening, Ian (Brooke) Speckman, Rachael Speckman, Jaimie
9Drobushevich, Jake Beachler, and Alicia and Amanda Harmening;
10and his 4 great-grandchildren, Tucker, Gunner, Gwen "Pi", and
11Jalen; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Donald W. Harmening, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Donald Harmening as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
