SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James "Roy" Cox of Erie, who passed away
4on February 15, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Cox was born in Erie to Clay and Florence
6Quade Cox on January 27, 1926; he served in the United States
7Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947; he married Arvilla
8Updyke on November 11, 1949; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Cox was a farmer; he also worked as an
10electrician for Heuer Electric in Erie and as a custodian for
11the Erie Community School District, from which he retired; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Cox was a member of Erie American Legion
13Post 582, where he previously held all of the Chairs, including
14Commander; he also held many Chairs and served as Commander of
15the American Legion 13th District from 1984 to 1985; he was a
16member of the American Legion from 1947 to 2016; he was a
17member of the Erie United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge,
18Geneseo, and he helped with the Special Olympics in
19Bloomington-Normal for many years; he enjoyed bowling; and
 
20    WHEREAS, James Cox was preceded in death by his parents;
21his wife, Arvilla; his brother; and 3 sisters; and

1    WHEREAS, James Cox is survived by his children and their
2spouses, Karna (Raymond) Wood, Terry (Kris) Cox, Lois (Mark)
3Boelens, Fay (David) Haan, and Brian (Chris) Cox; his several
4grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Jeanne
5Kay, Ava Biggs, and Anne (Jim) Johnson; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8James "Roy" Cox, and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of James Cox as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
