2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Anthony T. "Tony" Ferrelli of Aurora, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 3, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Anthony Ferrelli was born in Burlington, New | ||||||
6 | Jersey to first-generation, Italian immigrants Vincenzo
and | ||||||
7 | Venanzia Ferrelli on November 26, 1927; he volunteered for the | ||||||
8 | United States Army upon
graduating from high school; he married | ||||||
9 | Joan Novak on April 19, 1952; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Anthony Ferrelli was a member of the First | ||||||
11 | Infantry Division "The Big Red 1" and the 26th
Infantry | ||||||
12 | Regiment; he served his country for 21 years and
was a highly | ||||||
13 | decorated soldier, retiring as a Sergeant Major in 1967; during | ||||||
14 | his Army career, he served in many locations around the world, | ||||||
15 | including Germany, Japan, and
Korea; in the United States, he | ||||||
16 | served at Ft. Benning, Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Bragg, and others; | ||||||
17 | he was twice stationed at Marmion Academy, where he taught | ||||||
18 | ROTC; in 1966, before retiring from active service, he | ||||||
19 | volunteered for duty in Vietnam; he earned the Silver Star - | ||||||
20 | the Army's
third-highest combat medal - for his actions over a | ||||||
21 | 2-day period in March of 1967,
when his outfit engaged a Viet | ||||||
22 | Cong base camp and found themselves vastly
outnumbered by 2000 | ||||||
23 | enemy soldiers; he also earned the Bronze Star, the Purple |

| |||||||
1 | Heart, and several other medals and recognitions; he was known | ||||||
2 | as "The Humble Hero" after receiving national attention for | ||||||
3 | feeling he did not deserve his Silver Star; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, After his retirement from the Army, Anthony | ||||||
5 | Ferrelli served 23 years as a letter carrier with
the United | ||||||
6 | States Post Office; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Anthony Ferrelli was a member of Holy Angels | ||||||
8 | Church; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Anthony Ferrelli was preceded in death by his son, | ||||||
10 | Michael; his parents; his brothers, Umberto, Daniel, Dominick, | ||||||
11 | and Joseph; his sisters, Edith and Margaret; and his | ||||||
12 | daughter-in-law, Denise; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Anthony Ferrelli is survived by his wife of 64 | ||||||
14 | years, Joan; his sons, Christopher, Mark (Wendy), and Daniel; | ||||||
15 | his grandchildren, Matthew, Megan (Colin), Anthony (Kate), | ||||||
16 | Celia, and Mark; his great-grandchildren, Lana, Logan, and | ||||||
17 | Giovanni; his brother, Pasquale; and many nieces and nephews; | ||||||
18 | therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Anthony T. "Tony" Ferrelli, and extend our sincere condolences |

1 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
2 | it further

3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
