SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Theresa Maria Marks "Teet" Lee, who passed away on January 5, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Lee was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Lottie Jefferson Marks and Jason B. Marks, Sr. on November 17, 1941; she was baptized at an early age and stayed dedicated between her 2 home churches - Wesley Ray United Methodist Church in Angie, Louisiana and Olivet United Methodist Church in Chicago; she became "Mrs. Lee" on July 6, 1978 and was married for over 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Lee served in many areas of her church, including Pastor Parish, the food pantry, and the soup kitchen for the homeless; she attended several Northern Conferences in DeKalb and other areas as a faithful secretary and also a Girl Scout Leader; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Lee enjoyed fishing, crabbing, cooking, and traveling between Angie, Louisiana and Chicago with her children, foster children, and grandchildren; everybody knew her grandsons as the "chicken boys", from "Hot Garm Boogie Baby" (Quovadis) to "Lil' Kivo" (Kenyen); she won Foster Parent of the Year certificates for fostering children that were wards of the State, ranging from newborn to 10-years-old; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Lee was preceded in death by her son, Kiven Marks; her mother, Lottie Jefferson Marks; her father, Jason B. Marks, Sr.; her sisters, Effie Marks, Evelyn Marks Williams, and Bennie Marks Lewis; her stepson, Lewis Lee, Jr.; and her great-grandson, Kiven Martin, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Lee is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Donna) Bickham, Alicia (Terrell) Evans, Tiffany Lee, and Ada Lee; her son, Shawn Lee; her son through marriage, Dennis (Elaine) Lee; her 3 grandsons, U.S.A.F. (non-active) Quovadis (Kayla) Bickham, U.S.M.C. (non-active) Kiven Martin, and James "SchNOW" "CTP" "Joey 357" Kidd, Jr.; her additional grandsons through marriage; her 2 granddaughters, Jessica (Andriana) Bickham and Alexia-Jamese Watt; her extended granddaughters, Tracy Lee, Cierra Evans, and Caprece and Chalece Dixon; her additional granddaughters through marriage; her 3 great-grandsons, Quovadis Bickham II, Kenyen Cotton-Martin, and Quovari Bickham; her extended great-grandsons, Michael Givens and Antonio Carpenter, Jr.; her additional great-grandsons through marriage; her godsons, Kelvin (Valerie) Williams, Bonito Marks, Jr., and Shemar Price; her goddaughters, Alexis Smith, Brittny Hamilton, Tasha Harry, Jalisa Jefferson, Zena Jefferson, and Nevaeh Marks; her additional godsons, former Denver Nuggets 6th Man Marcus Liberty, and R&B artist Robert "R. Kelly" Kelly, Sr.; her 3 sisters, Emma Elaine Powell, Daisy L. Hall, and Alfretia V. Marks; her 2 brothers, Jason B. (Annie) Marks, Jr. and Harold (Marilyn) Marks; her brother-in-law, Watson O'Neal Brown; her special cousin, Rev. Lester (Mary) Minter; her favorite uncle, Marvin (Athrin) Jefferson; her ex son-in-law, Jesse (Gail) Bickham; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; and 5 family pets, Rock, Victory, China, Mia, and Tre; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Theresa Maria Marks "Teet" Lee, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Theresa Lee as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
