| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Mercedes "Nora" Atteberry of Champaign, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on January 11, 2016; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was born in Detroit, Michigan | ||||||
| 6 | to Ignacio and Yvonne
DesRouches Hernandez on July 25, 1930; | ||||||
| 7 | she married Frank Atteberry at Old St. Mary's Catholic Church | ||||||
| 8 | in Chicago on August 9,
1947; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was a homemaker; her family was | ||||||
| 10 | her
vocation and the source of her greatest joy; she was a | ||||||
| 11 | dedicated wife, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother;
| ||||||
| 12 | and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was a devout Roman Catholic; | ||||||
| 14 | she never wavered in her faith and held a strong
devotion to | ||||||
| 15 | Our Lady of Guadalupe; she was a member of St. Matthew Catholic | ||||||
| 16 | Parish in
Champaign and gave generously to many Catholic | ||||||
| 17 | charities and missions; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was a prolific reader of | ||||||
| 19 | mysteries and biographies and was an avid follower
of politics; | ||||||
| 20 | she enjoyed traveling to Mexico with her sisters to visit their | ||||||
| 21 | father
and extended family in Zamora, Michoacan; she spent many | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | hours volunteering
as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout | ||||||
| 2 | leader and in many capacities at
Robeson Elementary School in | ||||||
| 3 | Champaign; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 5 | parents; her husband of 44 years, Frank; her infant son, Tommy;
| ||||||
| 6 | her 3 sisters, Teresa Hernandez, Rose Gauss, and Mary Crowder; | ||||||
| 7 | her brother,
Albert Hernandez; and her infant granddaughter, | ||||||
| 8 | Megan Kelly; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry is survived by her 2 daughters, | ||||||
| 10 | Suzie (Tim) Conley and
Cindy (Mike) Kelly; her 4 sons, David | ||||||
| 11 | (Erin) Atteberry,
Danny (Jim Slaughter) Atteberry, Andy | ||||||
| 12 | (Charity) Atteberry, and Timmy (Deanna) Atteberry; and her 13 | ||||||
| 13 | grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 16 | Mercedes "Nora" Atteberry, and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
| 17 | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be | ||||||
| 18 | it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Mercedes Atteberry as an expression | ||||||
| 21 | of our deepest sympathy.
