2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Nancy Y. Franco-Maldonado, who passed |
4 | | away on December 29, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado was born on January 13, |
6 | | 1970 to Felicita Montanez and Hector Franco; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado was a devoted wife, a |
8 | | loving mother, and an active volunteer in her community; she |
9 | | served as Alderman Maldonado's principal political advisor, |
10 | | shaping many of his policies on education, housing, health, |
11 | | community, and economic development; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado had a deep devotion to her |
13 | | Puerto Rican heritage and community; she advocated naming the |
14 | | Hispanic Housing Senior building after Puerto Rican political |
15 | | prisoner, Oscar Lopez Rivera, and the Humboldt Park library |
16 | | after Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez; she supported building the |
17 | | Borinqueneers Housing initiative for Latino veterans at |
18 | | Norwegian American Hospital and the construction of the Paseo |
19 | | Boricua Arts Building; and

20 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado was a strong advocate for |
21 | | encouraging young Latinos to purchase homes in the Humboldt |
