2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of E. Hugh Henning of Muskego, Wisconsin, |
4 | | who passed away on August 10, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, E. Hugh Henning was born on February 18, 1923 in |
6 | | Fairbury; his parents were Walter and Mona Henning; he married |
7 | | Marian Goben on May 2, 1954; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, E. Hugh Henning proudly served in the United |
9 | | States Army from 1941 to 1943 during World War II; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, E. Hugh Henning earned his undergraduate degree in |
11 | | 1946 from Cornell College in Iowa, his Master of Science degree |
12 | | in accounting from the University of Illinois in 1948, and an |
13 | | honorary doctorate from Illinois Wesleyan University in |
14 | | Bloomington in 1994; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, E. Hugh Henning was a certified public accountant |
16 | | and senior partner of the firm of Henning, Strouse, Jordan, and |
17 | | Stephens and practiced as a public accountant for more than 41 |
18 | | years; he was an Illinois Wesleyan University trustee for 3 |
19 | | decades; he also served as treasurer from 1967 to 1986 and |
20 | | served with honor and distinction as a president of Illinois |
21 | | Wesleyan University's board of trustees from 1986 to 1994; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, E. Hugh Henning served in numerous |
2 | | business and civic capacities, including president and |
3 | | director of Dewenter & Company, director of the Agri-Vestors |
4 | | Corporation, treasurer of Brewster Food Service, Inc., and |
5 | | treasurer and director of the Galesburg News Agency, Inc.; he |
6 | | held leadership responsibilities in Bloomington-Normal at the |
7 | | McLean County Chamber of Commerce, the Mennonite Hospital |
8 | | Advisory Council, the School District 87 Advisory Council, and |
9 | | Wesley United Methodist Church; he also made many other |
10 | | commitments to local institutions, including the Bloomington |
11 | | Kiwanis Club, McLean County Bank, the Prairielands Foundation, |
12 | | the Children's Foundation, the C.V. Martin Foundation, the |
13 | | Centrillio Council of Girl Scouts, the Carolyn Rupert Trust, |
14 | | and the Bloomington Country Club; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, E. Hugh Henning was preceded in death by his |
16 | | parents and his brother, Donald Henning; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, E. Hugh Henning is survived by his wife, Marian; |
18 | | his children, Brad (Lynne) Henning and Susan (Kevin) Stoll; his |
19 | | grandchildren, Beth Henning, Katie Henning, Tom Henning, Alex |
20 | | Stoll, and Abby Stoll; and 2 sisters, Marian Youngblood and |
21 | | Dorothy Scott; therefore, be it
