2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Yancey B. Torrez of Waukegan, who passed |
4 | | away on October 29, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez was born on February 1, 1923 in |
6 | | Lorraine, Texas; his parents were Mariano and Maria Torrez; he |
7 | | married Amalia Arenas on November 29, 1952 in Waukegan; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez moved to Waukegan in 1929 at the age |
9 | | of 5, being among the first Mexican families in Lake County; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez served his country as a member of |
12 | | the United States Navy during World War II, attaining the rank |
13 | | of Seaman First Class; in 1950, he enlisted in the United |
14 | | States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Staff |
15 | | Sergeant, and was honorable discharged in 1954; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez was employed at Abbott Laboratories |
17 | | and Midland Dexter, where he retired after many years of |
18 | | service; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez was a member of the Marine Corps |
20 | | League Detachment 801, Lake County, IL, where he participated |

1 | | in parades, honor duty, funeral ceremonies, and other |
2 | | activities; he also worked with the Kirk Park Neighborhood |
3 | | Association and was a founding member of Comite Festejo |
4 | | Mexicanos; he was also a member of the American G.I. Forum and |
5 | | numerous other veterans groups; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez enjoyed hanging out at McDonald's |
7 | | each morning, inspiring the workers and chatting with his |
8 | | coffee klatch buddies; he also enjoyed music, woodworking, and |
9 | | photography; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez was preceded in death by his wife, |
11 | | Amalia; his parents; his brothers, Rafael Torrez and Richard |
12 | | Torrez; his grandchildren, Rafael Torrez, Jr. and Christina |
13 | | Torrez; and his son-in-law, Juan J. Valle; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Yancey Torrez is survived by his children, Rafael |
15 | | Torrez, Martha Valle, Henry "Rick" (Mildred) Torrez, Yolanda |
16 | | Torrez (Jose "Joe" Zuniga), Edward (Andrea Terry) Torrez, and |
17 | | Hector Torrez; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 6 |
18 | | brothers and sisters; and his many nieces, nephews, and |
19 | | cousins; therefore, be it

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
22 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Yancey B. Torrez; and |
