2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Randall Allan West of Peoria, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 30, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Randall West was born in Peoria on May 20, 1929 to | ||||||
6 | Pamella Eva Burnham and Clyde McKinley West; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | White Grade School, where he was co-editor of the school | ||||||
8 | newspaper; in 1947, he graduated from Peoria High School, where | ||||||
9 | he served on the student council for 4 years, was President of | ||||||
10 | the student council, and started the first Peoria High | ||||||
11 | Homecoming, which included a stunt show, a football game with | ||||||
12 | Springfield, and a dance; he graduated from the University of | ||||||
13 | Illinois in 1951, where he was President of the student senate, | ||||||
14 | played drums in the marching band, and was a member of the | ||||||
15 | Sigma Chi Fraternity, serving as its President; he was given | ||||||
16 | the honors of Skull and Crescent, Sachem, and MaWaDa; he | ||||||
17 | graduated from the University of Illinois Law School in 1953, | ||||||
18 | serving as President of the law school senior class; he served | ||||||
19 | in the United States Army in the Counter Intelligence Corps and | ||||||
20 | married Mary Jane Corrie on August 23, 1953 in Winchester; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Randall West practiced law in Peoria from 1955 to | ||||||
22 | 1999, practicing 6 years with his father until his father's | ||||||
23 | death; he then worked with the firm of Safford, West, Tornow |

1 | and Jaeger, where his son Stephen also practices; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Randall West was President of the Peoria Bar | ||||||
3 | Association and was President and founding member of the Estate | ||||||
4 | Planning Council; as a Peoria Jaycee, he served as Internal | ||||||
5 | Vice-President, was a Key Man, and received the Peoria Jaycees | ||||||
6 | Distinguished Service Award for community service; he was | ||||||
7 | active in the Downtown Kiwanis Club, served as President of the | ||||||
8 | Friendship House Board, was active in Cursillo, and served as a | ||||||
9 | rector and on a prison team; at Common Place, he served on its | ||||||
10 | Board of Directors and then served as a tutor for third and | ||||||
11 | fourth-grade students for 13 years; he received the Spirit of | ||||||
12 | Common Place Award for volunteer service in 2015; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Randall West was a lifetime member of First | ||||||
14 | Christian Church of Peoria; he served as Chairman of the | ||||||
15 | Trustees, as Chairman of the Admin. Board, as Chairman of the | ||||||
16 | Cabinet, and as Chairman of the Capital Campaign when the new | ||||||
17 | church was built; he was an author of the Permanent Fund | ||||||
18 | policies; he served as President of the Regional Board of the | ||||||
19 | Christian Church in IL/WI, served as Second Vice Moderator of | ||||||
20 | the National Christian Church Disciples of Christ, was | ||||||
21 | Parliamentarian at many General Assemblies, and served many | ||||||
22 | years on the National Board of the Christian Church Foundation; | ||||||
23 | and |

1 | WHEREAS, Randall West and Mary Jane traveled to Colorado, | ||||||
2 | England, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Israel, Russia, | ||||||
3 | China, and Brazil, where they visited their AFS son, Claudio | ||||||
4 | Motta; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Randall West was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
6 | and his brother, Owen; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Randall West is survived by his wife, Mary; his 3 | ||||||
8 | children, Stephen J. West (Deborah Springhart), David A. | ||||||
9 | (Sarah) West, and Linda (Leslie) Carter; and his | ||||||
10 | granddaughters, Corrie Brite, Kathleen Brite, Grace West, | ||||||
11 | Chloe Fike, and Sophia Fike; therefore, be it
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | Randall Allan West, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
15 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
16 | further
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Randall West as an expression of our | ||||||
19 | deepest sympathy.
