SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leonard Beetstra, who passed away on
4September 29, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was born in Harvard on November
68, 1925 to Jacob and Griet Beetstra; he attended White Oaks
7School and Harvard High School; he served in the United States
8Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS
9Prichett, a Fletcher-class destroyer, and saw action in the
10Pacific Theater; later in life, he helped organize Pritchett
11reunions and enjoyed many years of attending annual ship's
12reunions around the country with his fellow sailors; he married
13Marion Koch in Harvard on June 18, 1949; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was a licensed and bonded cattle
15dealer and was a well-known figure in farming circles
16throughout the area; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was a lifetime member of the
18Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Loyal Order
19of Moose, and the Tin Can Sailors; he was also a 66-year member
20of the First Presbyterian Church of Harvard; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra was preceded in death by his

1parents; his brothers, Bill and Jacob; and by his nephew,
2David; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Leonard Beetstra is survived by his wife of 66
4years, Marion; his five children, John (Amy) Beetstra, Melinda
5(Gary) Vose, Thomas (Angela) Beetstra, Robert (Julie)
6Beetstra, and Karen (Jim) Kruckenberg; his 15 grandchildren;
7his 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Raymond; and his
8sister, Grace McCullough; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Leonard Beetstra, and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Leonard Beetstra as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
