2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Brenda Joyce Caldwell, who passed away on |
4 | | October 18, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was born in SoSo, Mississippi on |
6 | | January 31, 1944 to
John and Ernestine Moody; she graduated |
7 | | from Shady Oak
High School in 1960, where she was an active |
8 | | member of the 4-H Club,
Palace of Children, and the basketball |
9 | | team; she attended Central State University and Tennessee State |
10 | | University, where she majored in sociology, graduating in 1967 |
11 | | with a Bachelor of Science; she married Wasdell "Was"
Caldwell |
12 | | on April 29, 1966; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Later in life, Brenda Caldwell returned to school |
14 | | and
enrolled in the University of Illinois at Chicago Jane |
15 | | Addams School of Social Work Master's
Program; during this |
16 | | time, she worked a full and a
part-time job, continued to take |
17 | | care of her home, and supported her daughter through her first
|
18 | | year of college; she graduated in 1988, earning a Master of |
19 | | Social Work; she went on to obtain her license as a clinical |
20 | | social worker and was
employed by the State of Illinois |
21 | | Department of Mental Health; she retired in 2003 after 36 years |
22 | | of public
service; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was baptized at Mount Pleasant |
2 | | Baptist Church; she was an active member of the church, |
3 | | participating in the BTU and the Usher Board, and was the
|
4 | | secretary of Sunday school; on relocating to Illinois, she |
5 | | joined Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church, where, when able, she |
6 | | was a faithful and active member; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell was preceded in death by her |
8 | | parents; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Brenda Caldwell is survived by her husband of 49 |
10 | | years, Wasdell; her 2
children, Michael and Michelle (Darnell); |
11 | | her grandchild, Malik
Caldwell; her brother, John E. Moody; her |
12 | | sister, Belinda Simmons; her mother-in-law, Cordia Caldwell; |
13 | | her sister-in-law, Ann (Richard); Linda Jean (Ken); Mary; her |
14 | | brother-in-law,
Frank Earl; and a host of nieces, nephews, |
15 | | cousins, and family friends; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Brenda Joyce Caldwell, and extend our sincere condolences to |
19 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
20 | | further

21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
22 | | presented to the family of Brenda Caldwell as an expression of |
