SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Henry J. Vassar, who passed away on
4September 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was born on August 2, 1941 in Alton;
6his parents were Albert J. and Emma (nee Free) Vassar; he
7married Shirley J. Henson on October 1, 1971 in Alton; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Henry Vassar graduated from Alton High School in
91959; after high school, he enlisted with the United States
10Marine Corps, serving from 1959 to 1963 during the Cuban
11Missile Crisis; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was a contract coordinator foreman at
13the Shell Oil Wood River Refinery, where he worked for 30 years
14until his retirement in 1994; he later became an assistant
15principal and a teacher for New Community Christian School; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Henry Vassar enjoyed golfing and bowling; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was an active member for over 30
18years and ministered as a Sunday school teacher, board member,
19elder, and interim pastor for Alpha Chapel, Faith Covenant
20Church, and Hillside Family Church (now Lifehouse Community

1Church); and
 
2    WHEREAS, Henry Vassar was preceded in death by his parents;
3his son, James Vassar; and his brothers, Floyd and David
4Vassar; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Henry Vassar is survived by his wife, Shirley; his
6daughter, Vanessa J. Vassar; his sons, Kenneth, Wayne, Joseph,
7and Adrian Vassar; his stepdaughter, Kelley Schultz; his
8special granddaughter, Madison Schultz; his many grandchildren
9and step-grandchildren; his many great-grandchildren; his many
10nieces and nephews; his sisters and brother-in-law, Emma Jane
11and George Frazier and Patricia Perkins; his brother, Mark
12(Marie) Vassar; and his sister-in-law, Doris Fink; therefore,
13be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Henry J. Vassar; and
17be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Henry Vassar as an expression of our
20sympathy.
