SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Muriel Frances Baum, who passed away on July 17, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Muriel Baum was born on February 27, 1945 in Chicago; her parents were Wilbur and Rita Stratton; and

WHEREAS, Muriel Baum was a massage therapist for couples' AA retreats at Villa Desiderata Retreat Center in McHenry for 20 years; she also worked as a barista at Starbucks, where she had a faithful following of happy customers; and

WHEREAS, Muriel Baum attended daily Mass as often as possible and was a Minister of Holy Communion at Santa Maria del Popolo in Mundelein before moving to St. Peter's Catholic Church in Antioch; she was welcomed into the lay Franciscan Novitiate in September of 1992 and was professed into the Secular Franciscan Order in the St. Maximilian Kolbe Fraternity on February 13, 1994; she also volunteered at Marytown, the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and in whatever capacity the Friars needed her; and

WHEREAS, Muriel Baum was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Steven Baum; her daughter, Mary; her parents; her brother, Donald Stratton; and her brother-in-law, Billy Sink; and

WHEREAS, Muriel Baum is survived by her sons, Scott (Shiona), Steven, and Robert (Tracey); her grandchildren, Haley, Steven, Nicholas, Bryan, and Trey; her sisters, Rita (Billy) Sink, Joann (Jim) O'Connell, Marcia (John) DeLeo, and Kathy (Ron) Wood; her many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces; her former daughter-in-law, Michele; her many dear and lifetime friends; and her sister of her heart, Peggy Esposito; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Muriel Frances Baum; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Muriel Baum as an expression of our sympathy.
