SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John W. Buckner, who passed away on
4September 16, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Buckner was born on October 7, 1955 to Elijah
6L. and Essie Mae Buckner; he attended Simeon and Parker High
7Schools in Chicago; he served in the United States Navy and
8mastered the art of painting, dry-walling, and plastering at
9trade school; he married Louise on March 14, 1981 at Pleasant
10Gift Missionary Baptist Church; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Buckner co-founded Buck & The Deacon, an
12interior decorating service; he spent many hours volunteering
13with the local aldermans in the 21st Ward office in the early
1490s, promoting voter registration and get-out-the-vote
15campaigns; he joined the Chicago Police Department as a
16civilian employee in May of 1990 and held various positions
17within the department; his most recent role was supervisor for
18the Equipment and Supply Department; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Buckner enjoyed cooking, gardening, music,
20and playing and teaching guitar; he also found time to coach
21his son's little league baseball team in his younger years; he
22and his wife were members of Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist

1Church; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Buckner was preceded in death by his 3
3siblings, Elijah Buckner, Joann Buckner-Jiles, and Clarence
4Buckner; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Buckner is survived by his wife of 34 years,
6Louise; his daughter, LaKeshia Buckner-Smith (Dennis); his
7son, Darnell Buckner (Thaneshia); his 3 brothers, Robert J.
8Buckner (Shirley), Raymond L. Buckner (Yvonne), and Charles B.
9Buckner; his sister, Beverly A. Smith; his dear friend and
10music brother, Charles Taylor; 5 grandchildren, Jalen, Jamil,
11Elijah, Chole, and Camron; and a host of nieces, nephews,
12family, friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15John W. Buckner, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of John Buckner as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
